Library
EAVA has got two speciality branch libraries, one in each study centre - at Tähtvere and at Ülenurme – to best serve the needs of its students, lecturers and the staff. In addition to that the Academy has signed a co-operation agreement with the University of Tartu which allows our students to use their library.
All in all the collection of materials at Tähtvere and Ülenurme branches contains about 8,000 information units.
The division of different materials and study aids between the branches depends on its everyday users – the staff, lecurers and the students of the specialities of Aircraft Maintenance, Communication and Navigation Systems Management and Aviation Company Management at Tähtvere, and the lecturers and students of the specialities of Aircraft Piloting and Air Traffic Service at Ülenurme. The latter as the main branch holds the majority of the materials and study aids, different periodicals, newspapers, materials from aviation seminars and conferences included. A great amount of aviation information is available thanks to a CD-ROM collection which is supplied with a user catalogue.
In the year 2003 a special library software – the Urram program for information administration – was taken into use and by now the electronic catalogue has been created. Urram makes it easier to manage servicing in the two branches and the information exchange between the branches. The software of Urram has undergone further development and in the nearest future the readers will be notified automatically by e-mail of the coming deadline for returning the books.
The most important objective of developing the collection is to ensure the availability of necessary study aids in both centres. In the choice of new materials the trends in the development of EAVA, i.e. new curricula, trends in research and scientific work are taken into account. Concrete titles of study literature are ordered according to the request of different departments and chairs. Special attention is paid to obtaining the updated versions of documents on all the fields of aviation.
According to the statutes the library is open to the students, lecturers and teachers of other higher educational institutions and gymnasiums, to the staff of all the aviation enterprises and to the co-operation partners of the Academy.
