ATSTO
Air Traffic Service Training Organisation
The aim of air traffic services is to support safe, regular, fast air traffic in the air space and at the airports.
ATSTO is offering ATS training/education. In the course of their studies the trainees are expected to acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills on the required level. After graduation and after a short on-the-job training period (up to 3 months) they can apply for Air Traffic Controller Licence and start working at air traffic services providers.
Studies at ATSTO start with classroom lectures in the subjects such as Aviation Law, Aviation Meteorology, Human Factor, Aviation English, Navigation, Aerodynamics, Aircraft Constructions and Equipment, ATM systems and equipment, Air Traffic Management, Aeronautical Information Services and Radiotelephony.
After passing the exams successfully the training continues with simulator practices.
During the simulator training a student air traffic controller learns to apply the rules and procedures acquired previously during the theoretical course. At the same time the fellow students act as pilots. The instructor follows the students performing the task and, if needed, gives instructions.
In addition to simulator based training the curriculum includes practical training in real working positions. The students of the Academy have practised and got experience in different ATC units of Estonian, Finnish and Swedish airports.
