ICAO Language Proficiency Exam
Estonian Aviation Academy offers an opportunity to take the ICAO Language Proficiency Exam. The exam used is Test of English for Aviation (TEA) developed in Mayflower College, UK.

EAVA has been recognised as the Language Proficiency Testing Organization by the Estonian Civil Aviation Administration by its respective Certificate.

The examinations with the Aircraft Maintenance course are available to be taken on an external basis, meaning that all the studies with the Aircraft Maintenance external course are self-reliant, only the examinations are available to be taken at the department.
Students study independently at home, in some cases using materials (in Estonian, English or Russian) from the Academy library or multimedia interactive materials via the Internet.
The course is in compliance with the international requirements (Part 66, Part 147) and consists of 17 modules:
- module 1 - Mathematics (required for all licences, module covers: arithmetic, algebra and geometry).
- module 2 - Physics (required for all licences, module covers: mechanics, thermodynamics, optics (light) and wave motion & sound).
- module 3 - Electrical fundamentals (required for all licences, module covers: generation of electricity, magnetism, generators, transformers and motors).
- module 4 - Electronic fundamentals (required for B1 and B2 licences, module covers: semiconductors, printed circuit boards and servomechanisms).
- module 5 - Digital techniques / Electronic instrument systems (required for all licences, module covers: electronic instrument systems, logic circuits, fibre optics and digital aircraft systems).
- module 6 - Materials & hardware (required for all licenses, module covers: aircraft materials, corrosion, fasteners, pipes, bearings and transmissions).
- module 7 - Maintainence practices (required for all licenses, module covers: safety precautions, workshop practices, engineering standards, assembly, inspection and maintenance procedures).
- module 8 - Basic aerodynamics (required for all licenses, module covers: physics of the atmosphere, aerodynamics, theory of flight and flight stability and dynamics).
- module 9 - Human factors (required for all licenses, module covers: human performance, social psychology, communication and hazards in the workplace).
- module 10 - Aviation legislation (required for all licenses, module covers: certifying staff, aircraft certification and international requirements, certifying staff, aircraft certification and international requirements).
- module 11a,b - Aeroplane aerodynamics, structures and systems (required for A1.1 and B1.1 licences, module covers: theory of flight, airframe structures, air conditioning, instruments, power, lights, and on-board maintenance systems).
- module 12 - Helicopter aerodynamics, structures and systems (required for A1.3, A1.4, B1.3 and B1.4 helicopter licences, module covers: theory of flight, airframe structures, air conditioning, instruments, power, lights and blade tracking).
- module 13 - Aircraft aerodynamics, structures and systems (required for B2 licences, module covers: theory of flight, structures, instruments, power, lights and on-board maintenance systems).
- module 14 - Propulsion (required for B2 licences, module covers: basic operation of gas turbine engines, indicating systems and their operation).
- module 15 - Gas turbine engine (required for A1.1, A1.3, B1.1 and B1.3 licences, module covers: gas turbine engine fundamentals).
- module 16 - Piston engine (required for A1.2, A1.4, B1.2 and B1.4 licences, module covers: piston engine fundamentals).
- module 17 - Propeller (required for A1.1, A1.2, B1.1 and B1.2 licences, module covers: propeller construction, propeller pitch control, propeller synchronising, propeller ice protection, propeller maintenance and storage & preservation).
All the modules are avaliable for examination at the department. The examinations require registration and can be taken either in English or Estonian at Estonian Aviation Academy on the first Thursday and Friday of every month. The examination cost is 95 EUR per module.
